Spirit Lake Nation backs 'Fighting Sioux' vote
Thursday, September 17, 2009

The Spirit Lake Dakotah Nation passed a resolution that acknowledges tribal member support for the "Fighting Sioux" nickname and logo of the University of North Dakota.

The resolution could help UND keep the controversial name and logo. But the school hasn't received support from the Standing Rock Sioux Tribe.

The North Dakota Board of Higher Education set an October 1 deadline for UND to obtain tribal support.
