Firm seeks to expand Navajo Internet service

A company in Farmington, New Mexico, wants to expand Internet service on the
Navajo Nation.
Action Intelex is proposing to install satellite towers at
Navajo Nation chapter houses. The towers would provide service to chapter houses and to homes within a five-mile radius.
The project depends on grants from the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009. The company expects awards to be announced later this year.
Some chapter houses already utilize satellite towers. But a dispute with a company apparently led to a loss in service last year.
The Navajo Nation would prefer to install fiber optic lines, an official said. "We went though the satellite communications before, and it didn't work out very well," Harold Skow, the director of the
Navajo Department of Information Technology, told The Farmington Daily Times.
