Umatilla Tribes to create jobs with bond project

The
Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Reservation in Oregon plan to create 100 jobs with a tax-exempt bond project.
The tribe is taking advantage of $23.6 million in bonding authority it received through the
American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.
The bonds will fund a 200-room hotel, pool and multi-event center.
"We're not a big urban population center so creating 100 jobs is going to have a significant impact in our region," Gary George, the chief of operations for the
Wildhorse Resort and Casino, told Northwest Public Radio.
Nationwide, the
Department of Treasury announced $1 billion in tribal tax-exempt bonding authority. Applications for another $1 billion are due January 2, 2010.
