The
Blood Tribe of Alberta has purchased 665 acres as part of a land claim settlement with the federal government.
The tribe was swindled out of some of its land in 1889. Two settlements were reached to compensate the tribe for its losses.
As part of the deal, the tribe spent $5.6 million (Canadian) to acquire new properties. The next step is to have the land declared a part of the reserve.
"I think with our tribe, our members, land base is always so important, we're so tied to what we believe is not only our land, but our traditional territories," Chief Charles Weaselhead told The Calgary Herald.
