Abramoff Scandal
Federal prosecutors have identified former Rep.
John Doolittle (R-California) and his wife as unindicted co-conspirators in the Jack Abramoff scandal.
Doolittle and his wife, Julie, are not charged with any crimes. But the
Department of Justice is identifying them in order to introduce their e-mails in the trial of Kevin Ring, one of Abramoff's associates.
Ring worked for Doolittle before joining Abramoff's firm. Prosecutors allege Ring provided tickets, meals, drinks and other gifts to members of Doolittle's staff.
Ring is on trial for fraud and conspiracy in connection with his lobbying for tribes and other clients. A separate trial is pending on obstruction of justice charges.
