Obamas select Indian art for White House

President Barack Obama and
First Lady Michelle Obama selected works by four Native artists and 12 Indian paintings by
George Catlin to display in the
White House.
The works by the four artists are displayed in the Oval Office. They are on loan from the
National Museum of the American Indian.
The works are: a
vase by
Lucy M. Lewis (
Acoma Pueblo);
Intertwining Scrolls by Jeri Redcorn (
Caddo/Potawatomi); a
jar by Steve Smith (
Mohawk); and a jar by
Maria Poveka Martinez (
San Ildefonso Pueblo).
The 12 Catlin paintings are in the White House residence. They are on loan from the
National Gallery of Art.
