Thursday, October 15, 2009 Filed Under: Politics UPDATE: Jefferson Keel elected president. Juana Majel-Dixon elected first vice president. National Congress of American Indians holds an election this morning for the top two positions on its executive board. Two candidates are running for president. They are: Jefferson Keel, a member of the Chickasaw Nation of Oklahoma who serves as 1st vice president of NCAI; and Cedric Black Eagle, the chairman of the Crow Tribe of Montana. The candidates for vice president are: Juana Majel-Dixon, a member of the Pauma Band of Luiseno Indians of California who serves as an area vice president of NCAI; and James Steele Jr., the chairman of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribes of Montana. Two other posts on the executive committee were filled by acclamation, after the two candidates drew no challengers. Theresa Two Bulls, the president of the Oglala Sioux Tribe of South Dakota, will serve as secretary. Ron Allen, the chairman of the Jamestown S'Klallam Tribe of Washington, will serve as treasurer.
