Lumbee Tribe chairman aims to boost credibility

Purnell Swett, the newly elected chairman of the
Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina, plans to focus on restoring credibility when he takes office in January.
Swett defeated two challengers for the position, according to unofficial results. He says the tribe, whose federal recognition bill is pending in Congress, is at one of the most critical times in its history.
Tribal members also elected seven council members.
