Canadian border agency will hire Native liaison

Canadian Border Services
Agency plans to hire a Native liaison but the
Mohawk Council of Akwesasne is worried the job will go to someone who doesn't know the tribal community.
The CBSA and the Mohawks have met to discuss a range of border issues, including the presence of armed guards at a crossing station on tribal land. The two sides agreed to the creation of a Native liaison but haven't spoken since September, when negotiations broke down.
"The whole purpose and objective is to hire someone who is familiar with the culture and traditions," Mohawk Grand Chief Michael Mitchell told The Watertown Daily Times. "I don't see how someone from their staff can fill that position."
