Cherokee Nation to contribute $54K to politicians

The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma approved $54,000 in contributions to political candidates and political action committees.

The tribe's Executive Finance Subcommittee will donate $2,400 to Democrat Felton Newell and $5,000 to New Leadership PAC for Newell. Newell is running in the primary against Rep. Diane Watson (D-California), who has sponsored bills to cut federal funds to the tribe unless the Cherokee Freedmen are restored to citizenship.

The subcommittee also approved $4,800 to Rep. Dan Boren (D-Oklahoma); $2,000 to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's leadership political action committee; $4,800 to Rep. Jim Clyburn (D-South Carolina); $25,000 to the Democratic Legislative Campaign Committee and $10,000 worth of $1,000 donations each to several members of the Tennessee Legislature.
