Police probe potential threats over 'Fighting Sioux'
Friday, November 20, 2009

Police at the University of North Dakota are investigating potential threats over the school's controversial "Fighting Sioiux" nickname and logo.

The UND Senate recently passed a resolution that calls for an end to the use of the nickname and logo. Two Senate leaders have received voicemail message that are apparently related to the issue.

The Spirit Lake Dakotah Nation supports the continued use of the name and logo. The Standing Rock Sioux Tribe isn't likely to vote on the issue soon, according to chairman Charles Murphy.
