Massachusetts tribes discuss concerns about wind farm

The Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe and the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe were cautious after meeting with Interior Secretary Ken Salazar about a controversial wind farm in Massachusetts.

The tribes met with Salazar and Assistant Secretary Larry Echo Hawk in Washington, D.C., to discuss their objections to Cape Wind. They say the 440-foot-tall turbines will block their view of Nantucket Sound and impact sacred sites and burial grounds.

Salazar also met with the Cape Wind Developers and state and local officials. He has set a March 1 deadline for the parties to reach a compromise and he expects to make a final decision on the project by April.
