Architect files lawsuit against Navajo council speaker
Monday, February 1, 2010

An Arizona architect has filed a lawsuit against Navajo Nation Council Speaker Lawrence Morgan and the speaker's chief of staff in Navajo Nation court.

Will Graven, the owner of North American Building & Development, says Morgan promised him at least $500,000 for designing a legislative complex for the council. He says Morgan failed to come through.

"Am I going to get my $1 million?" Graven told The Farmington Daily Times . "Probably not. But I'll just follow them for the rest of my life."

Graven presented his design to the council in 2007 but the council never approved a formal contract for the work. A spokesperson for Morgan said the council decided not to go into business with Graven after looking into his background.

"This is how he operates," spokesperson Joshua Lavar Butler told the paper. "It's unfortunate that he's doing this to the Navajo Nation."

The legislative complex hasn't been built.
