Salazar not expecting consensus on wind farm project

Interior Secretary Ken Salazar said he doesn't expect tribes and the developers of a wind farm to reach a consensus on the controversial project.

Salazar went to Massachusetts to meet with the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe and the Aquinnah Wampanoag Tribe. The tribe fear the Cape Wind turbines will block their view of the sun and disrupt burial grounds and archaeological sites at Nantucket Sound.

Salazar set a March 1 deadline for the tribes, the developers and other affected parties to reach a consensus on the project. But his remarks during the visit indicated he will have to make a decision on his own.

The National Park Service says Nantucket Sound is eligible for placement on the National Register of Historic Places due to its cultural significance.
