Public schools that use offensive Indian mascots, nicknames and imagery face fines under a bill passed by the
Wisconsin
Assembly on Thursday.
The bill sets up a process for people to complain about mascots. A school board can be fined if the usage is found to be discriminatory.
The bill contains an exception for tribes that approve the use of their names as mascots.
