Blackfeet police officers on hold for background check

The
Bureau of Indian Affairs has furloughed all 11 police officers for the
Blackfeet Nation of Montana.
The BIA said the tribe failed to conduct in-depth background checks on the officers. So nine replacement officers have been brought in while the issue is being resolved.
"They'll remain there until the tribe gets its background checks completed," BIA deputy special agent Elizabeth Hall told The Great Falls Tribune of the replacements.
In 2003, the BIA took over law enforcement on the reservation amid accusations of corruption and mismanagement. The tribe has been working to restore its police force.
