Team from BIE school in Mississippi celebrates solar car victory

Students from a
Bureau of Indian
Education high school in Mississippi are still celebrating their victory in a national solar car contest.
The team from Choctaw Central High School finished the
Hunt-Winston School Solar Car Challenge first, drove the most miles and maintained the highest average speed. The team's car, known as Tushka Hashi III, also arrived at each daily stop before any other group.
“It’s very good to feel like winners and bring recognition to our tribe,” Kursten Watkins, a member of the
Mississippi Band of Choctaw
Indians, told Indian Country Today.
The school has been invited to the Solar Car World Challenge in Australia next year. The students and their advisers will raise money in hopes of making the trip.
