Two entities competing to host big Shiprock Fair on Navajo Nation

The 99th annual Shiprock Navajo Fair is quickly approaching and it looks this year's event will be controversial as usual.
The
Shiprock Chapter of the
Navajo Nation says it is in charge of the fair, set to take place in the first weekend of October.
"We're taking the parade, 100 percent," spokesperson Lloyd Smith told The Farmington Daily Times.
But the non-profit Shiprock Navajo Fair Inc. says it's running the show.
"We went to court over this," Charlie Joe told the paper. "That's crazy to think the chapter can take the parade."
The fair has become controversial in recent years. Although it attracts over 100,000 people to Shiprock, the chapter says it doesn't much of the revenues, and residents don't like to deal with the trash and other problems associated with the big event.
