Subway founder continues backing of Conn. tribe

Frederick A. DeLuca, the founder of the Subway sandwich chain, said he would continue to provide financial backing for the Schaghticoke Tribal Nation of Connecticut.

DeLuca has supported the tribe since 1996. He said he spent millions on the tribe's successful federal recognition bid.

DeLuca said he will continue his support as the tribe seeks land for a casino, possibly in Bridgeport. In the meantime, the tribe is battling state officials who are challenging the Bureau of Indian Affairs' decision in favor of federal recognition.
