Indian energy title being reworked in Senate

The Senate has been debating S.14, the national energy policy bill, all week while changes are being made to the Indian energy section.
Sen. Ben Nighthorse Campbell (R-Colo.) was to have debated the section earlier this week. But he agreed to pull it while he works with Sen. Jeff Bingaman (D-N.M.) over concerns that the bill limits the federal government's trust responsibilities and does not allow for environmental protections.
The Navajo Nation is leading opposition on the trust language. The National Congress of American Indians also has concerns. The Council of Energy Resource Tribes, through its executive director, says recent changes made by Campbell address the trust issue.
