Schwarzenegger joins Calif. recall election
Thursday, August 7, 2003

Actor Arnold Schwarzenegger announced on Wednesday that he was joining an ever-growing field of contenders seeking to oust California Gov. Gray Davis (D).

Schwarzenegger, whose popularity at the box office has waned in recent years, is running as a Republican but has no prior experience. He made public his decision on NBC's "The Tonight Show With Jay Leno" and said Davis had failed the people of California.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), who is currently leading an effort to impose restrictions on a tribe seeking a casino, said yesterday she would not run. But dozens more are seeking a spot on the October 7 ballot.
