Calif. court to resolve conflicting tribal rulings

A California appeals court has been ordered to resolve whether state election law applies to tribal governments.
The Fair Political Practices Commission filed suit against two tribes to force them to comply with state reporting requirements. One decision favored the Santa Rosa Indian Community while the other went against the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.
Tribal officials say they are not subject to the law and make public their donations regardless.
