"That disastrous incident of Sept. 11 taught us we are not as loved as we think. Neither are we innocent from hating and killing, either. We have done our share.
The attacks on the World Trade Center and Pentagon made me realize how small and vulnerable we are. So, it is nice to live in North Dakota - a friendly place that people in other states think is too cold or isolated to live, a place so unappreciated that people are leaving. Yet a place removed somewhat from the hate of the world.
We were affected by Sept. 11 to the very bone."
