GOP to add ANWR drilling provision to energy bill

Republican leaders are planning to include drilling in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in the energy bill under debate.
The Republican-controlled House has approved drilling but the closely-split Senate has rejected it.
Including it in the energy bill could kill the entire package, Democrats say.
Arctic Slope Regional Corp., a regional Alaska Native corporation with $1 billion in revenues, owns subsurface rights in the refuge. A corporation representing the Inupiat village of Kaktovik owns the surface rights. Drilling could benefit both entities.
