Native leader pleads not guilty to hate crime

A Native leader who made statements praising the Holocaust pleaded not guilty on Wednesday to promoting hatred against Jews.

David Ahenakew, former chief of the Assembly of First Nations and former head of the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations, is charged under Saskatchewan's hate crimes statute. He told a newspaper reporter that the genocide of Jewish people was justified. Later, he said that the media was controlled by Jews.
