McCain adviser wanted ads against Calif. tribes

A Republican strategist who worked on Sen. John McCain's failed presidential bid urged actor Arnold Schwarzenegger to air ads attacking the political influence of California tribes, The Los Angeles Times reports.
The Schwarzenegger campaign was involved in a "long-running argument" over the ads,
according to The Times.
Mike Murphy, the McCain strategist, and Don Sipple, the campaign's ad-maker pushed for them to air.
The ads, which accused tribes with casinos of not paying "their fair share" to the sate and criticized rival for accepting tribal money, ran on the Monday before the September 24 debate in which Schwarzenegger participated.
His aides said they were surprised that neither Lt. Gov. Cruz Bustamante (D) nor
state Sen. Tom McClintock (R) retaliated for the ads.
In the week before the election, McCain endorsed Schwarzenegger.
