Minn. senator upset over Anderson hearing snub
Thursday, October 23, 2003

Minnesota's senior senator, Democrat Mark Dayton, is upset he wasn't invited to the confirmation hearing of Bureau of Indian Affairs nominee Dave Anderson.

Dayton told The Minneapolis Star Tribune he hasn't met Anderson, a resident of Edina, and hasn't decided whether ot support him. Anderson did meet with several members of the Senate Indian Affairs Committee on Tuesday. He also met with Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), who is concerned about "out-of-state" tribes seeking to assert their rights on ancestral territory in New York.

The Indian committee voted 13-0 to advance Anderson to the Senate floor. Two members, Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) did not vote yesterday.
