J.C. Watts representing tribe seeking recognition

Former U.S. Congressman J.C. Watts (R-Okla.) is lobbying on behalf of the Golden Hill Paugussett Tribe of Connecticut, a tribe seeking federal recognition.

Former assistant secretary Kevin Gover represented the tribe before he joined the Clinton administration. The tribe has been denied recognition in a preliminary decision from the Bush administration.

Watts left Congress as the only African-American Republican.
