S.D. tribal members can apply for gas tax refunds
Friday, January 16, 2004

The South Dakota Department of Revenue and Regulation is accepting applications for gas tax refunds from tribal members.

The state has been illegally imposing its tax on the sale of gas to reservations since the 1920s. The South Dakota Supreme Court ruled the state must refund the money, but claims must be made within 15 months of purchase.

The state says the refunds are limited to tribal members who purchased gas on their own reservations.
