Man accused of murdering Anna Mae goes on trial

Jury selection begins on Tuesday for the trial of a man accused of murdering American Indian Movement activist Anna Mae Pictou-Aquash.
In February 1976, Pictou-Aquash, a member of the Mi'kmaq Tribe from Canada,
was found dead on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota. She was shot in the head.
After decades of inaction, federal authorities indicted two men for her murder. One of them, Arlo Looking Cloud is going on trial in federal court. The other, John Graham, is fighting his extradition from Canada. Both are said to have been affiliated with AIM.
Paul DeMain, the publisher of News from Indian Country, links Pictou-Aquash's murder to Leonard Peltier. He thinks AIM leaders had her killed because she heard Peltier bragging about killing two FBI agents. Peltier is serving two life sentences for those murders.
