Senate Republicans scale back energy legislation

Senate Republicans released a new version of the energy policy legislation on Tuesday, cutting back tax breaks and other business incentives.
Sen. Pete Domenici (R-N.M.), chairman of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, said he wouldn't seek to attach the measure as an amendment to the transportation bill. The White House is threatening a veto of that bill, citing its high cost.
The summary sent out by the committee yesterday didn't mention the status of the Indian energy section. Earlier versions limited the Department of Interior's involvement in energy projects on Indian land.
