School holding off on Indian mascot policy

The North Dakota State University's athletics director won't make a decision on the use of Indian mascots until later this spring when the NCAA addresses the issue, The Grand Forks Herald reports.

NDSU doesn't have an Indian mascot or use Indian symbols. But the University of North Dakota, a rival school, has the Fighting Sioux nickname and an Indian head logo.

That has prompted some NDSU students and faculty to oppose the UND name. At one game last year, the announcer was told not to use the words "Fighting Sioux" but there is no official policy.
