Lawmaker seeks public input on casino plans
Tuesday, January 28, 2003

A Republican lawmaker in Louisiana has introduced three bills that require more public input into any proposed tribal casinos.

Two bills require casinos to be approved by a majority of voters where it would be located. Another one requires public hearings on all tribal casinos and tribal-state compacts.

The bills were introduced by Rep. Dan Flavin, who represents an area where the Jena Choctaw Tribe sought to open a casino.
